PBS KIDS® Series Between the Lions® Third Annual Roadshow visits the DSC September 16th!

How many lions do you know who love to read? Since 2000, Theo, Cleo, Lionel, and Leona have shown their prowess for teaching children to read on the Emmy® Award-winning PBS KIDS series Between the Lions. This summer, the literacy loving Lions will be unleashed on their third annual Roadshow, traveling to five cities across the nation to educate and entertain some of their biggest (and littlest) fans with live, interactive shows.

In September, the second leg of the Roadshow brings Theo and Leona to Detroit, Toledo, Ohio, and Cleveland. As in past years, the Lions will visit local libraries, museums, zoos, and other family-friendly venues to share stories, songs, and laughter. They will bring the television series to life, with a show that invites children to participate as they sing about the sounds of letters, play with words, and read along with the Lions. Aaron Nigel Smith, founder of FUNdamentals of Music and Movement, will join his Lion friends in their read-alongs and add his original award-winning music to the mix.

“The Lions love meeting their fans and can’t wait to have a blast reading and learning together,” says Judy Stoia, Executive Producer of Between the Lions at WGBH Boston. “And don’t be surprised if another character or two from the series pops up during the show,” adds Chris Cerf, Executive Producer for Sirius Thinking, a co-producer of the series. “They all cherish the opportunity to meet kids from around the country.”

Ushering in the fall premiere of the ninth season of Between the Lions (September 21), Theo and Leona launch the second leg of the Roadshow, where they’ll be the “mane” event in Detroit, Toledo, and Cleveland from September 15–21. In Detroit, the Lions will make a stop at the Detroit Science Center on Wednesday September 16th with shows at 9:30, 10:30, and 11:30am.

Between the Lions Takes Pride in Success Research has proven the impact of Between the Lions, including a recent study, which demonstrated that preschoolers at risk for reading failure made significant gains in reading skills after using an educational curriculum based on Between the Lions. Another study found that kindergarten students who viewed the series significantly outperformed non-viewing peers and gained skills at a faster rate.*

Between the Lions airs nationally on PBS KIDS and you can catch the series on:
