Don't Forget: Father's Day (June 20) is a Ford Free FunDay AND our Kids Town Fair at the DSC!



Join us for fun-filled activities throughout the day at the third annual Kids Town Fair Sunday June 20 from 10 am to 5:30 pm! Take a trek on the moonwalk, let your child’s imagination soar with story time by our own Cat in the Hat, grab some deals on books from Scholastic, finger-paint your fun mural memories and enjoy many more surprises!

Members, join us for a special opening at 9 a.m. with goody bags from Zakoor’s Party Novelty and nutritious breakfast treats provided by Whole Foods Market while supplies last!

Members Only preview of TWO NEW shows Friday Feb 12!

Travel to some of the most fascinating destinations on Earth and beyond as we preview two new shows in the twin domes of the Detroit Science Center on Fri, Feb. 12, 2010 – MacGillivray Freeman’s Arabia in the Chrysler IMAX® Dome Theatre and Black Holes in the Dassault Systèmes Planetarium.

Attention Members! Santa Fest is coming Thursday, December 3rd!

Fa-la-la-la into the holidays at our second annual members only Science Center Santa Fest! Listen to live holiday and pop music. Visit with Santa. Get cozy in Kids Town with holiday stories. Decorate cookies provided by Whole Foods Market (while supplies last) and explore other festive activities.

Members also can enjoy free showings of the all new holiday IMAX® film
The Light Before Christmas in the Chrysler IMAX® Dome Theatre and other family-friendly activities. Bring your camera to catch moments with Santa and other holiday fun.

Don’t forget your shopping list! Our Science Store will reveal its best bets for the season and will offer a double discount (20%off) to make gift giving for all ages even better. Discounted memberships also will be available for the perfect present that offers year-round fun.
Advance tickets are not available. Admission is on a first-come, first-served basis. Limited parking is now available for $5 in the Detroit Science Center parking lot.

Build Your Own Holiday Telescope Workshop Sat. Nov. 7, 2009


Join us at the Detroit Science Center to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the astronomical telescope by building your own holiday telescope! Assisted by the staff of the Dassault Systèmes Planetarium and members of the Ford Amateur Astronomy Club on Saturday, November 7 from 10 00 AM – 11:30 AM. Discover how telescopes work, discover the different types of telescopes, and how to use your telescope to discover the wonders of your backyard sky!

Cost: The cost of the class is $30 per family or $25 for Detroit Science Center members.

Join us for Member Fiesta Night: Thursday, Oct. 15th

Now is the best time to experience what’s new at the Detroit Science Center for members! In celebration of our new traveling exhibition, The Accidental Mummies of Guanajuato, members can enjoy festive Mexican-themed refreshments, entertainment and piñata prize giveaways. Be among the first to experience The Accidental Mummies of Guanajuato as well as many other Science Center activities. Registration is recommended.

Featuring 36 accidental mummies on loan from the Museo de las Momias de Guanajuato, this 10,000 square-foot exhibition combines science, history and cultural anthropology immersing you in the world of a Mexican city over 100 years ago where deceased residents naturally mummified in their crypts. It is the very first time these mummies have been seen outside of Mexico.

Member Fiesta Night is Thursday, Oct. 15 from 4:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Cost: $10 - half off regular exhibit admission for members.
